Our Classes
Take a structured class with our experienced and highly motivated instructors. They are committed to helping you achieve the best results with your dancing during eight-week blocks and drop in classes.
Our emphasis is on ensuring our students fully understand the basic elements, fundamental step patterns and solid lead / follow techniques. So you will be dancing LA Style Salsa or Casino de Rueda in no time.
Our fee structure is based on a pay-as-you go system. We do not charge our students block fees as we understand that you may often have other commitments that keep you from attending some classes.
Our classes follow a level structure. Go to our skills page for a description of what you can expect to learn in each of the levels.
Beginner Salsa Classes
This is a set syllabus for absolute beginners or those transferring from another beginner course. You will learn the basics and fundamentals that are required to dance salsa. It should only take one block (8 weeks) to learn the beginner syllabus, however there is no pressure to move to the next level. Feel free to repeat the syllabus until you feel comfortable to progress. As a guide this level may include:
- History of Salsa
- Types of Salsa dancing
- Understanding Salsa music
- Rhythm and timing
- Basic body movement (Cuban motion)
- Partnering techniques
- Basic core step patterns
- Basic shines
- Basic styling
Improver Salsa Classes
This is a set syllabus for those who have completed our beginners syllabus or transferring from another completed beginner course. You will learn variations and brand new step patterns to help improve your salsa dancing skills. You will learn the improvers syllabus over three blocks (24 weeks) before receiving any repeated material. Feel free to repeat the syllabus until you feel comfortable to progress. As a guide this level may include:
- Body movement (Cuban motion)
- Hand hold variations
- Variations on core step patterns
- Brand new step patterns
- Simple dips
- Turn variations and drills including double turns
- Haircombes
- Arm and leg styling for leaders and followers
- More complicated shines footwork including syncopation
- Improvements on partnering techniques
Intermediate Salsa Classes
This is an open syllabus class for those who have completed our beginners and improvers syllabus. It is recommended that you fully understand the fundamentals learned in the other levels as they will not be re taught in this class. Brand new, more complex combinations will be taught frequently to help build your repertoire. Also in this class you will learn styling, musical interpretation, how to transpose your ON1 salsa to popular ON2 and we will also show you some Cha Cha. As a guide this level may include:
- Body Movement (Cuban motion)
- Hand hold variations
- Double Spins for leaders and followers (e.g. New York Prep)
- More complicated leading and following techniques
- More complicated step patterns
- Styling for leaders and followers
- Musicality (e.g. understanding the highs and lows in the music)
- Rotating cross body leads
- Full Dip
- Introductions to other dance styles
Beginners Casino de Rueda Classes - currently not available
This is a set syllabus for absolute beginners or those transferring from another beginner rueda course. You will learn the basics and fundamentals that are required to dance rueda. It should only take one block (8 weeks) to learn the beginner syllabus, however there is no pressure to move to the next level. Feel free to repeat the syllabus until you feel comfortable to progress.
Some salsa dance experience will help you learn these beginner rueda skills but it is not essential. You must complete our beginner rueda level before attempting to join our rueda drop-in class. As a guide this level might include:
- History of Casino de Rueda
- Types of Salsa dancing
- Understanding Salsa music
- Rhythm and timing
- Rueda rules and etiquette
- Partnering techniques
- Basic core step patterns
- Progressive core step patterns
Improver Casino de Rueda Classes - currently not avalable
This is a drop-in class for those who have completed our beginners rueda syllabus. Brand new, more complex combinations will be taught frequently to help build your repertoire. This will will a multi-level class.
You can join this class anytime because different steps will be focused on each week so it does not matter what week you join. As a guide this level might include:
- Hand hold variations
- Variations on core step patterns
- Variations on progressive step patterns
- Brand new step patterns
- Turn variations
- Styling for leaders and followers
- Improvements on partnering techniques
